About the job Onsite | College Student – AI Robotics Trainer (No Experience Required) — $10–$20/hour

We are sharing a specialised part-time onsite opportunity for college students and early-career contributors to participate in a robotics data collection project focused on training next-generation AI and robotic systems through structured, real-world physical interactions.

Selected participants will work in a San Francisco lab using a handheld UMI gripper device to perform repetitive manipulation tasks such as picking up objects, opening containers, and completing simple household actions. The work focuses on precise execution, reliable data capture, environmental resets, and clear issue reporting. No prior experience in robotics or AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Robotics Data Collection & Physical Task Execution

  • Operate a handheld UMI gripper device within an onsite San Francisco lab
  • Perform repetitive manipulation tasks such as picking up objects, opening containers, and completing simple household actions
  • Work across different objects, environments, and task scenarios
  • Maintain consistent execution to support reliable robot-learning data collection
  • Follow project procedures carefully throughout each task sequence

Instructions, Protocols & Data Quality

  • Follow detailed written instructions and collection protocols exactly
  • Verify the quality and completeness of each submission before moving to the next task
  • Reset physical environments accurately between task attempts
  • Maintain consistent handling and task execution across repeated trials
  • Identify situations where captured data may not meet project-quality requirements

Issue Detection & Technical Reporting

  • Detect irregularities such as hardware malfunctions, unclear instructions, or compromised recordings
  • Report technical or procedural issues promptly to the project lead
  • Document observations clearly through written and verbal communication
  • Follow troubleshooting guidance and adjust workflows when instructed
  • Suggest practical process improvements when recurring issues or inefficiencies are identified

Accuracy, Reliability & Project Collaboration

  • Maintain strong attention to detail throughout extended periods of repetitive hands-on work
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and consistent participation
  • Collaborate with project coordinators and other contributors to support smooth project execution
  • Remain focused during tasks requiring continuous physical activity and precision
  • Learn basic hardware interfaces and project software quickly as required

Ideal Profile

  • Current college student or early-career candidate interested in hands-on technical work
  • Strong fine motor control, dexterity, and ability to handle objects precisely
  • High attention to detail and ability to follow detailed step-by-step instructions without deviation
  • Comfortable performing repetitive physical tasks for extended periods
  • Strong reliability, punctuality, and personal accountability
  • Ability to learn basic hardware interfaces and simple project software quickly
  • Comfortable identifying and reporting technical or procedural issues
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Background in warehouse operations, gaming, gig work, student projects, or other hands-on environments is advantageous
  • No previous robotics or AI experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Onsite in San Francisco
  • Compensation: $10–$20/hour
  • Work will involve physical manipulation tasks, robotics data collection, environmental resets, submission review, and issue reporting
  • Strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and reliability are important for this engagement
  • No prior experience in robotics or AI is required
  • Project scope, workload, timing, and duration may evolve depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
