Senior Firmware Engineer
Position Summary
As a Sr Firmware Engineer, you will be a key contributor within the new product development team, supporting the design, development, testing, and enhancement of embedded firmware solutions for electric actuator products. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-quality products that meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and Emerson quality standards. This role offers the opportunity to contribute throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through validation and manufacturing support, while helping drive innovation in industrial automation technologies.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain firmware solutions for electric actuators and embedded products.
- Translate product requirements into scalable, reliable, and maintainable firmware architectures.
- Develop embedded software from concept through deployment, including coding, debugging, integration, and validation activities.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, systems, and test engineering teams to ensure seamless product integration.
- Analyze and improve firmware performance, reliability, and resource utilization.
- Conduct firmware testing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and defect resolution.
- Participate in product lifecycle activities including requirements analysis, design reviews, prototyping, certification, manufacturing support, and sustaining engineering.
- Support firmware development in real-time operating system (RTOS) environments and ensure adherence to industry best practices.
- Contribute to cybersecurity-conscious product development practices and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Utilize development, configuration management, testing, and defect tracking tools to support efficient product delivery.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies, communication protocols, and industry trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

For This Role, You Will Need
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience in embedded firmware development with the ability to understand hardware architecture and work closely with hardware engineering teams.
- Strong proficiency in C and/or C++ programming for embedded systems.
- Experience developing firmware in RTOS-based environments with a solid understanding of real-time operating system concepts.
- Understanding of 16-bit and/or 32-bit microcontrollers, microprocessors, peripherals, and embedded architectures.
- Experience with low-level firmware development for interfaces such as Ethernet, USB, DDR, I2C, SPI, UART, display systems, or related technologies.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP-based communication protocols and embedded device networking.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting products throughout the full product development lifecycle.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work within cross-functional and global engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, HART, or Bluetooth.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity-focused product development practices, including IEC 62443 principles.
- Experience developing firmware for motor control applications or actuator-based products.
- Exposure to electric actuators or industrial automation products.
- Familiarity with Agile or SAFe methodologies.
- Experience using industry-standard tools for source control, requirements management, defect tracking, testing, and continuous integration.
- Experience contributing to complete product designs from concept through production release.
