Role Overview

The Head of Engineering is the most senior engineering leader in the business — owning the architecture, delivery capability, and the AI/MCP strategy that will define how Accountability competes over the next five years. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the technology strategy of a growing, vertical-specific SaaS platform at a pivotal moment, accelerating from a strong, proven foundation with intelligence, rigor, and speed.

Key Responsibilities

AI & MCP Strategy

• Define and execute the MCP (Model Context Protocol) server roadmap — starting with read-only AI agent access to platform data in Phase 1, progressing to write operations by Phase 4
• Architect the integration between Accountability's API layer, the MCP server, and external AI consumers including Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and client-built LLM agents
• Evaluate integration and automation approaches — maintaining a clear architectural boundary between data integration and AI access layer
• Stay ahead of the field: track MCP protocol developments, LLM capabilities, and agentic workflow patterns, and translate these into concrete platform decisions

Engineering Leadership

• Lead and mentor three engineering teams:
• Web App Team — the platform's financial engine: GL, AP/AR, billing, revenue recognition, payments (ISO 20022), and month-end close automation
• Mobile App Team — time, expense, and workflow features for field and agency staff
• Platform Team — Integrations, AI/MCP server, and API layer
• Set engineering standards: code quality, testing, deployment practices, incident response, and on-call discipline across all three teams
• Drive the ongoing .NET to .NET Core migration — maintaining delivery velocity while modernizing the foundation

Platform & Architecture

• Ensure platform scalability, security, and reliability as the client base grows across enterprise holding companies, independent networks, and specialist agencies
• Define the data architecture that supports both operational workflows and the embedded BI and AI layers — ensuring Redshift, SPICE datasets, and the MCP server operate from a coherent, consistent data model

Product & Commercial Alignment

• Partner closely with Product Management to translate the strategic roadmap into executable, well-sequenced engineering plans
• Represent engineeering at executive level: provide clear, honest reporting on delivery progress, technical debt, and risk

Qualifications

Required

• Proven experience leading engineering teams in a B2B SaaS environment — ideally in fintech, ERP, or professional services software
• Hands-on architectural depth in .NET / .NET Core, SQL, REST APIs, and AWS — you can review a pull request and hold your own in a design review
• Demonstrable experience building or integrating AI/LLM capabilities into production software — you understand prompt engineering, agent architectures, and the practical limits of current models
• Strong grasp of data architecture: warehousing, ETL/ELT patterns, and the relationship between operational databases and analytical layers
• Experience with integration patterns: direct API, webhooks, iPaaS, and event-driven architectures — and clear opinions on when each is appropriate
• Track record of managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams across different product domains (e.g., mobile, core platform, integrations)
• Ability to communicate clearly at all levels — from a code review with an engineer to a commercial conversation with a prospective enterprise client
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Preferred

• Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) — protocol design, tool exposure, and security considerations for AI agent access
• Experience with agency management, media, or professional services ERP software
• Exposure to financial messaging standard (ISO 20022, etc) and e-invoicing compliance (Peppol) or international tax/regulatory environments
• Background in global software deployment — multi-region, multi-currency, multi-entity environments
