Position Summary
Dark Matter Technologies is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer II to join our Engineering organization. This role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software solutions that support Dark Matter's lending and mortgage technology platforms.
The Software Engineer II operates with limited supervision and is expected to contribute to solution design, analyze business and technical requirements, deliver high-quality code, and participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle. This individual will collaborate closely with architects, product managers, quality engineers, and peers to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions while helping to elevate engineering excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software applications and services.
- Analyze technical and business requirements and translate them into maintainable software solutions.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions, providing recommendations based on technical best practices.
- Develop moderately complex software components, APIs, integrations, and user-facing functionality.
- Perform root-cause analysis and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
- Create unit tests, support automated testing initiatives, and participate in quality assurance activities.
- Conduct and participate in peer code reviews to improve code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Architecture, QA, Operations, and Security.
- Document application designs, technical specifications, support procedures, and development standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, automation, security, performance, and reliability.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to Software Engineer I team members and interns.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, and retrospectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency in at least two modern programming languages
- Working knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and Agile development practices.
- Embraces an AI-First mentality when it comes to software development
- Experience developing enterprise applications and services.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and software engineering best practices.
- Experience with source control systems and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong SQL and database development skills.
- Experience debugging, troubleshooting, and optimizing software applications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft .NET technologies including C#, ASP.NET, and Web APIs.
- Experience with Angular
- Experience with AI-Assist development tools. (GitHub Copilot, LLMs, etc.)
- Experience developing cloud-native applications using Amazon Web Services.
- Familiarity with microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development.
- Understanding of security best practices for enterprise applications.
- Enterprise Integration Experience
- Experience within mortgage, real estate, fintech, or financial services industries.

During the first 12 months, the Software Engineer II will:

- Successfully own medium-complexity projects and technical initiatives.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of Dark Matter products, platforms, and engineering practices.
- Contribute to system design discussions and architecture reviews.
- Improve application quality, performance, maintainability, and reliability.

The selected candidate will be expected to work onsite from the Sharon, PA or Jacksonville, FL office 3 days per week.
