About ESHYFT
Nearly 1.3 million Americans are residents of nursing homes, they depend on nursing staff for basic needs. Currently, 99% of nursing homes in the US are facing nursing shortages, which means residents may not receive adequate care.
We’re on a mission to provide health care to the most vulnerable by connecting nurses to healthcare facilities. We’re a technology company that strives to empower nurses by offering flexibility and control over when and where they work, along with higher wages. Through our mobile apps, our community of qualified nurses provide much-needed staff for short-staffed facilities.
Job description
ESHYFT is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (P4) to serve as the subject-matter expert across multiple services or features. Our technology strategy is defined, but the solution and architecture usually are not. You will deliver independently against major portions of the team’s software, working across service boundaries without needing detailed guidance.
You will be part of a team working to use data to match nurses with shifts to fulfill our company mission – thinking through how to empower nurses and help facilities. This includes building agentic workflows against data and ML models leveraging actions on both sides of our marketplace.
This role is full-stack in practice
day-to-day work leans backend, data, and infrastructure, but you’ll be expected to solve problems end-to-end and pick up frontend work as needed.
Qualifications
- 9+ years of experience in a hands-on software engineering role, including experience owning multiple services or a major portion of a product.
- Strong JavaScript and Python skills, plus experience with another language such as Dart.
- Deep proficiency with cloud systems, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
- Skilled with infrastructure-as-code systems like Terraform.
- Hands-on experience with LangChain (or AutoGen) for building production-grade LLM applications.
- Strong data skills with familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
- Proven experience with asynchronous flows like Pub/Sub.
- Familiar with Data Pipelines and Data Warehousing systems at scale.
- Experience evaluating and recommending tooling or architecture decisions at the team level.
What Sets You Apart
- You are passionate about using technology to solve real customer problems at scale.
- You take a pragmatic, thoughtful, practical approach to solving problems that considers trade-offs, simplicity, and maintainability across systems, not just a single feature.
- You care about the quality and performance of the software your whole team ships, and proactively seek out the highest-impact technical debt to pay down.
- You’re a trusted resource other engineers turn to, and you can clearly articulate proposals in terms of customer and business impact.
Requirements
- Communicates clearly and constructively, works effectively as part of a team, and adapts well to change.
- Treats colleagues, clients, and stakeholders with professionalism and respect, and contributes to a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject-matter expert across multiple services or features, owning their technical design and architecture end to end.
- Review technical designs for your team, and proactively bring your own designs to Principal engineers for review.
- Set the bar for code review quality across the team, and act as a resource for the most complex problems anyone on the team runs into.
- Participate in your team’s on-call rotation and own specific operational excellence goals, mitigating immediate risk while driving fixes to root causes and escalating as needed.
- Evaluate and recommend AI tooling and workflows for the team, and set the bar for what “AI-assisted” work still needs to meet, including test coverage and review depth, before it ships.
- Drive team-wide best practices and process improvements, converging with other Staff and Principal engineers on standards for the broader codebase.
- Act as a trusted advisor to peers, documenting strategies to hit team-level goals and giving actionable feedback that helps others grow.
