Director - Developer Platforms, Infra, Data Engineering and Platform

We are looking for a Director - Developer Platforms, Infra, Data Engineering and Platform to lead and evolve the engineering platforms and infrastructure that power Carousell Group at scale.

This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who can operate across Platform Engineering, Infrastructure / SRE and Data Engineering and go deep in at least two of these areas.

You will help shape how our engineering organisation builds, operates and scales systems while driving the adoption of AI-native and agentic engineering practices across the organisation.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable operating at both strategic and technical depth. You should be able to engage with senior engineers on architecture and technical decisions while also leading managers and engineering organisations through complex, multi-year initiatives.

What You Will Do

• Lead and evolve our platform, infrastructure and engineering capabilities to support highly scalable and reliable systems across Carousell Group.
• Drive agentic engineering and AI adoption across engineering teams, leading from the front with hands-on experience applying AI to engineering workflows and software development.
• Provide technical direction across Platform Engineering, Infrastructure / SRE and Data Engineering and make sound architecture decisions across these areas.
• Lead the design and operation of highly scalable distributed systems with strong focus on reliability, performance, observability and operational excellence.
• Partner with engineering leaders across the organisation to improve developer productivity, engineering velocity and system reliability.
• Build and develop a strong engineering leadership layer and help principal and senior engineers grow their technical leadership.
• Lead distributed engineering teams through managers and create an environment where senior technical talent can do their best work.
• Drive engineering excellence across areas including service runtime, observability, scaling, service communication, data consistency, developer tooling, networking, security and infrastructure.
• Own and influence significant infrastructure and platform investments including engineering efficiency and cloud cost optimisation.
• Work closely with Product, Data, Engineering and executive stakeholders to shape technical strategy and influence business outcomes.
• Operate effectively across multiple markets, teams and cultures within Carousell Group.

What We're Looking For

Must Have

• Significant experience leading large-scale engineering organisations in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure / SRE and/or Data Engineering.
• Deep technical expertise in at least two of the three areas while having enough breadth across all three to effectively lead teams with deeper specialists.
• Strong hands-on experience driving AI-native or agentic engineering adoption within an engineering organisation.
• Strong distributed systems architecture and design expertise.
• A track record of successfully building, scaling and operating high-scale platforms or systems.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives from architecture through execution and operations.
• Strong technical judgement with the ability to engage credibly with Principal and Senior Engineers.

Good to Have

• Experience mentoring and developing Principal / Senior Engineers and building strong technical leadership pipelines.
• Experience owning cloud infrastructure or platform costs at significant scale.
• Experience leading distributed engineering organisations of 15–30+ engineers through an EM layer.
• Experience working in a multi-brand, multi-market or multi-business-unit organisation.
• Experience working across different geographies and cultures.
• Strong executive communication and stakeholder influence.
