Infrastructure Technical Lead

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Platform Technical Lead to lead the design, delivery and support of enterprise infrastructure and platform services, with a strong focus on VMware and Red Hat OpenShift.

The organisation's technology estate is primarily on-premises, therefore strong enterprise infrastructure experience is essential. You will provide technical leadership across infrastructure, virtualisation, platform engineering and automation initiatives, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, scalable and operationally supportable.

Working closely with architects, engineers, application teams, security teams and suppliers, you will drive technical governance, solution design, operational excellence and modernisation across the infrastructure estate. Whilst the role is infrastructure-focused, experience designing and supporting cloud-native architectures and containerised platforms is required to support ongoing transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, delivery and support of enterprise infrastructure and platform solutions.
• Provide technical leadership across VMware, OpenShift and core infrastructure technologies.
• Drive technical governance, design assurance and engineering best practices.
• Ensure solutions are secure, resilient, highly available and operationally supportable.
• Champion automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and continuous improvement.
• Manage technical risks, dependencies and stakeholder engagement.
• Mentor engineering teams and coordinate specialist technical resources.

Essential

• Proven experience in an Infrastructure Platform Technical Lead, Infrastructure Technical Lead or similar senior technical role.
• Strong expertise in VMware enterprise virtualisation platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes platform administration.
• Strong background supporting large-scale on-premises enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Experience with RHEL, enterprise storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience delivering highly available, resilient and secure production platforms.
• Knowledge of automation technologies including Ansible, Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience designing and supporting cloud-native architectures, container platforms and modern application hosting models.
• Strong understanding of operational readiness, platform support and service reliability.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
• Azure and/or AWS hybrid cloud environments
• Ansible Automation Platform
• ArgoCD and GitOps practices
• Prometheus, Grafana and enterprise observability platforms
• Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices
• Enterprise security, compliance and infrastructure governance experience

Ideal Candidate A hands-on technical leader with deep VMware and OpenShift expertise, capable of leading the evolution of a predominantly on-premises infrastructure estate while leveraging cloud-native architecture principles, automation and modern platform engineering practices.
