Senior Data Engineer

Overview of Senior Data Engineer

ebbo is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing Data team and play a critical role in scaling our data infrastructure and engineering capabilities. The Senior Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines within our Snowflake-based data platform, integrating data from AWS DMS, S3, and Lambda-based sources. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, secure, and well-governed data delivery leveraging Snowflake's native capabilities alongside Airflow orchestration and Terraform-managed infrastructure to support analytics and data-driven decisions across the organization. This is a senior-level individual contributor role.

Key Responsibilities of Senior Data Engineer

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes within Snowflake, utilizing native capabilities.
  • Build data ingestion pipelines using AWS DMS, S3, and Lambda.
  • Build and maintain data ingestion pipelines from external sources, including client SFTP servers, REST APIs, and vendor file feeds.
  • Orchestrate and monitor workflows using Apache Airflow.
  • Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform for CI/CD deployments.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into data solutions.
  • Apply data security practices including encryption, tokenization, and secrets management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production data pipeline issues.

Qualifications for Senior Data Engineer

  • Deep, hands-on expertise in Snowflake, including Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, and Snowpark (Python).
  • Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write and optimize complex, production-grade transformation logic.
  • Working knowledge of AWS services relevant to data pipelines: S3, Lambda, DMS, Secrets Manager, and KMS.
  • Experience orchestrating data workflows with Apache Airflow (DAG design, scheduling, monitoring/alerting).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform, for provisioning and managing cloud resources.
  • Solid understanding of data security and privacy practices, including encryption, tokenization/de-identification, and access control design.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across distributed, multi-system data pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to document designs clearly and collaborate cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort incorporating AI-assisted development tools into daily workflow to improve efficiency and reduce repetitive manual work.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, with significant hands-on experience in Snowflake.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining production data pipelines in a cloud environment (AWS preferred), including monitoring pipeline health and troubleshooting/resolving production issues.
  • Experience owning end-to-end development of data engineering solutions with minimal oversight, from design through deployment and ongoing support.
  • Experience with change data capture (CDC) architectures and/or SQL Server transactional replication.
  • Experience supporting compliance-driven data initiatives, such as PII de-identification or data governance frameworks.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server, in addition to Snowflake.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) to improve engineering efficiency and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) is a plus.

Perks and Benefits of Senior Data Engineer

  • Fully remote organization.
  • Unlimited PTO, closing every Friday at 2pm (all year round) and a paid week off between Christmas and New Year's.
  • Health Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life, Safe Harbor 401K plan with a 3% contribution from ebbo, 100% vested to you right away.
