Job Description
This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution that supports the strategic outcomes of the Business' Products and Services. Key responsibilities include defining the target operating environment, designing for client resiliency, assisting with solution design, and defining non-functional requirements. Job expectations include working with stakeholders and service providers aligned to the Business' strategic objectives, evaluating the impact of strategic design decisions, and contributing to the architecture roadmap.
- This role is responsible for defining the architectural vision and technology solutions that support enterprise privacy capabilities, regulatory compliance, responsible data use, and effective management of sensitive data. As applications, data volumes, and regulatory expectations evolve, the role drives secure, scalable, resilient, and efficient architectures that embed privacy principles and controls throughout the technology lifecycle.
- The role partners across Privacy, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Cybersecurity, Data Management, business, and technology organizations to translate privacy requirements into sustainable architecture solutions. The architect leads complex design decisions, guides technology investments, establishes reusable architecture practices, and provides technical leadership and direction to architecture, engineering, and delivery teams.
Responsibilities
- Works across the business, operations and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision for complex solutions and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements into a technology backlog to enable the technology roadmap and functionality to support evolving capabilities and services
- Contributes to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data, and Technology) in support of the product roadmap and the development of best practices including standardized templates
- Clarifies the architecture, assists with system design to support implementation, and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
- Facilitates solution driven discussions, leads the design of complex architectures, and finds creative solutions through knowledge of domain, practical experiments, and proof of concepts while ensuring architecture is flexible, modular, and adaptable
- Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
- Supports the team as needed to select the technology stack required for solutions and helps select preferred technology products
- Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
- Define solution architecture and technology strategy for complex business capabilities.
- Develop and maintain architecture roadmaps across Business, Application, Data, and Technology domains.
- Establish privacy architecture standards, frameworks, blueprints, reference models, and reusable solution patterns.
- Lead complex solution design discussions and provide direction on architecture, integration, data, security, privacy, and control decisions.
- Translate privacy policies, regulatory obligations, business requirements, and risk considerations into scalable technology solutions.
- Embed privacy by design, data minimization, purpose limitation, access controls, traceability, and sensitive-data protection into solution architectures.
- Design solutions that support the appropriate identification, classification, use, sharing, retention, protection, and disposition of sensitive data.
- Ensure platforms and services are secure, scalable, resilient, interoperable, observable, and performant.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering and architecture practices, including APIs, microservices, containerization, automation, and hybrid cloud solutions.
- Define standards for application development, deployment, integration, testing, monitoring, and operational support of privacy technology solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, architecture patterns, and evolving privacy requirements to guide future capabilities and technology investments.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, data management, cybersecurity, privacy, risk, and regulatory requirements.
- Guide teams in developing reusable, enterprise-scale services and transitioning proofs of concept into sustainable production solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and design oversight across architecture, engineering, and delivery teams.
- Lead cross-functional architecture efforts, delegate design activities where appropriate, and maintain accountability for overall solution integrity.
- Identify architecture risks, dependencies, control gaps, and technical debt and drive appropriate mitigation plans.
Required Qualifications
- Experience leading the architecture and design of enterprise-scale applications, platforms, integrations, and data solutions.
- Experience designing solutions that manage sensitive, confidential, regulated, or personal data.
- Strong understanding of privacy by design, data protection controls, secure architecture, and responsible data use.
- Strong knowledge of cloud technologies, APIs, microservices, event-driven integration, and modern architecture patterns.
- Experience developing architecture strategies, roadmaps, standards, frameworks, blueprints, and governance practices.
- Experience translating business, privacy, risk, and regulatory requirements into architecture decisions and implementable technology solutions.
- Knowledge of data architecture, metadata management, data classification, lineage, access controls, retention, and information lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of security, resiliency, risk, control, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex design discussions, influence decisions, and drive alignment across business and technology organizations.
- Experience guiding, mentoring, and coordinating architects, engineers, and other technical resources.
- Strong stakeholder management, executive communication, and technical presentation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience delivering privacy technology, data governance, or regulatory compliance capabilities in financial services or another highly regulated industry.
- Knowledge of privacy principles, regulatory requirements, privacy engineering, and privacy risk management practices.
- Experience with enterprise data governance, metadata management, information architecture, data discovery, data classification, and information lifecycle management.
- Experience designing capabilities that support privacy assessments, data inventories, regulatory records, individual rights, consent, preferences, or privacy controls.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence governance, privacy considerations for AI solutions, and responsible data use.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, automation, observability, containerization, and hybrid cloud practices.
- Experience evaluating third-party technology products and integrating vendor solutions into enterprise architectures.
- Architecture or cloud certifications, such as TOGAF or equivalent credentials.
- Privacy, security, data governance, or risk management certifications.
- Experience leading enterprise transformation and technology modernization initiatives.
- Previous people leadership, team management, or formal technical leadership experience.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
