As an AI Engineering Intern, you will work directly with engineers to understand technical challenges, translate them into AI use cases, and iterate on solutions based on user feedback.
A few additional responsibilities will include
- Developing AI-powered tools, agents, and workflows to support engineering and product development activities for braking and steering systems in the Vehicle Motion division.
- Identifying high-value opportunities to apply generative AI, machine learning, automation, and agentic workflows within existing engineering processes.
- Prototype and evaluate new AI concepts quickly, then mature successful concepts into reliable tools that can be used by engineering teams.
- Applying AI to embedded software development activities, including areas such as code generation, code analysis, debugging support, test development, requirements analysis, and engineering documentation.
- Developing AI-enabled solutions for engineering analysis, including processing, interpreting, and summarizing technical data and test results.
- Building workflows that combine AI models with engineering tools, data sources, scripts, APIs, and internal systems.
- Explore the use of AI agents to automate multi-step engineering tasks and improve engineer productivity.
- Supporting development of retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge assistants, and other AI solutions that allow engineers to more effectively access and use technical information.
- Evaluating the accuracy, reliability, and limitations of AI-generated outputs in engineering applications.
- Researching emerging AI technologies and determine their applicability to automotive engineering and embedded product development.
- Documenting developed solutions, architecture, lessons learned, and recommended practices for broader adoption within the organization.
- Taking ownership of AI projects from initial problem definition and proof-of-concept development through validation and deployment.
- Improving data accessibility by developing scalable solutions to aggregate, structure, store, and expose engineering and business data for analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical field with at least one semester completed.
- Minimum of overall GPA of at least 3.0
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Strong programming skills, preferably with experience in Python and familiarity with software development best practices.
- Hands-on interest or experience with generative AI, large language models, machine learning, AI agents, or AI-enabled software development.
- Experience developing applications using APIs, automation frameworks, or software integrations.
- Interest in automotive systems, embedded software, controls, braking systems, steering systems, or safety-critical product development.
- Familiarity with embedded software development, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, data analysis, or automotive development tools is a plus.
- Experience with AI development concepts such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, tool calling, agentic workflows, or model evaluation is a plus.
Availability
- Fall 2026: Part-time internship while attending school.
- Winter 2027: Continue part-time while attending school.
- Summer 2027: Transition to a full-time after finals.
- The internship will conclude prior to the start of the student’s next academic term in Fall 2027.
- The extended internship structure is intended to allow the student to move beyond short-term experimentation, develop a deeper understanding of braking and steering product development, and take meaningful AI solutions from concept through implementation.
