Description
As a Senior Software Engineer, you are a product-minded, customer-focused, full-stack engineer who designs, builds, and operates the software that powers our travel platform. You take ownership of significant features and services end to end, from design through production, and you set a high bar for engineering quality on the teams you work with.
You have built real systems that run in production, and you know what it takes to keep them scalable, reliable, secure, and fast under real-world load. You make sound architectural decisions, weigh trade-offs across performance, reliability, security, cost, and speed-to-market, and partner with product and engineering peers to ship work that matters.
You bring strong judgment to your craft, using modern tools including AI coding agents to move faster without compromising quality, security, or maintainability. You work with a high degree of independence on the areas you own, with work reviewed for technical quality and delivery outcomes.
What you'll do
- Design, build, test, and operate features and services across the stack, owning them from design through production and ongoing support
- Build scalable, reliable systems with the observability, failover, and operational practices needed to run them in production at scale
- Design and tune low-latency, high-performance services to meet latency and throughput targets under real-world load
- Apply secure engineering practices throughout the lifecycle, safeguarding the privacy and trust of our members' sensitive data
- Make sound architectural and technology decisions for your areas of ownership
- Use AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to increase velocity while holding the line on code quality and security
- Contribute to platform modernization, migrating legacy systems toward scalable, cloud-native services
- Establish and uphold engineering quality standards, SLOs, and operational excellence for the systems you own
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate requirements into well-architected solutions
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and on-call rotations, and help raise the technical bar
- Mentor and support less-experienced engineers
What you'll bring
- Strong fundamentals in designing scalable, reliable systems and the trade-offs of running them in production
- Solid understanding of application and data security, including secure coding, authentication/authorization, and protection of sensitive data
- Hands-on experience profiling and tuning low-latency, high-performance applications
- Experience designing resilient cloud applications with observability, failover, and disaster recovery in mind
- Experience with real-time streaming and distributed messaging platforms (Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipeline design
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and modern DevOps / SRE practices
- Effective prompt engineering for code generation, debugging, testing, and documentation
- Experience with project management and collaboration tools (Jira, ADO, GitHub, or similar) and Agile delivery
- Strong communication skills and a continuous-learning mindset, including the evolving agentic engineering landscape
