About the Role

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is a key technical role within the Futures Clearing Technology group at Citigroup. This dynamic, fast-paced team delivers low-latency, high-performance, straight-through processing (STP) solutions for exchange-traded derivatives. The platform handles trade allocations, clearing, and position management for Futures and Options across 22 clearinghouses globally.

We are seeking an exceptionally strong, hands-on senior developer for our Singapore team. In this role, you will collaborate with global development teams to architect, design, and deliver cutting-edge solutions. Your primary focus will be on delivering book-of-work items related to margin payment automation, fees and commissions automation, and robust position limits monitoring. You will build resilient, reusable libraries and components, ensuring the platform remains modern, scalable, and aligned with evolving technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Design: Architect, design, and implement resilient, stateless, and highly scalable microservices and APIs, ensuring they conform to Citi’s technical standards and blueprint.
  • Microservices Development: Develop reusable software components within a cloud-native, microservices-based architecture to support core clearing functions, margin payments, and position limits management.
  • Hands-on Coding: Write clean, high-quality, and secure code utilizing Java and modern frameworks. Develop high-performing front-end screens (Angular) utilizing in-house libraries with an emphasis on design patterns and reusability.
  • Position Limits & Clearing Logic: Design and implement business logic to handle complex position limits (including exchange-mandated, regulatory, and house limits) and straight-through processing of futures clearing flows.
  • DevOps & CI/CD: Implement and maintain automated build, test, and deployment pipelines utilizing Citi’s modern DevOps toolchain (Bitbucket, Jenkins, OpenShift).
  • Quality & Test Automation: Partner closely with QA engineers to drive test automation efforts early in the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build shared libraries. Mentor and coach junior team members, enforcing governance around development and testing standards.

Required Technical Skills

  • Java Expertise: Highly skilled and hands-on with Java (Core Java, Multithreading, Concurrency) and the Spring Ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security).
  • Microservices Architecture: Strong, demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and deploying distributed, event-driven microservice-based architectures.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Highly skilled in deploying and managing cloud-native applications on Docker and OpenShift/Kubernetes platforms.
  • Database & Messaging: Strong proficiency in SQL (relational databases) and enterprise messaging middleware such as Kafka or IBM MQ.
  • Front-End Development: Hands-on experience with web technologies including JavaScript, Angular, HTML5, and CSS.
  • Agile Methodologies: Proven experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment within a global, matrixed organization.

Required Functional & Domain Knowledge

  • Futures Clearing: Decent functional understanding of the exchange-traded derivatives (ETD) trade lifecycle, clearing workflows, trade allocations, and integrations with global clearinghouses.
  • Position Limits: Good working knowledge of position limits management, including real-time monitoring, regulatory reporting requirements, and limit breach mitigation workflows.

Desirable Skills & Competencies

  • Application Security: Experience implementing security protocols and standards (OAuth, TLS/SSL, SSH, SFTP, and PKI).
  • Caching Technologies: Experience with distributed caching solutions (e.g., Gemfire, Redis) to optimize low-latency processing.
  • Professional Attributes: Detail-oriented, self-organized, and proactive with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage tight deadlines and navigate ambiguity in a high-pressure global environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
