Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and modernization of enterprise-grade back-end systems
- Define and influence architectural direction for critical capabilities
- Serve as a technical authority across engineering teams
- Partner with leadership to translate business and regulatory requirements into technical solutions
- Establish reusable engineering patterns, reference architectures, and implementation standards
- Design and implement back-end services that integrate AI capabilities into enterprise workstreams
- Work with stakeholders to ensure AI-enabled features are implemented with appropriate controls
- Collaborate with data science, platform, and vendor teams to integrate AI services
- Help define engineering standards for responsible AI usage
- Identify opportunities to use AI to improve internal engineering and operational workstreams
- Build systems that meet the expectations of regulated environments
- Ensure software designs account for compliance obligations, risk management practices, and governance
- Partner with security and compliance teams to support threat modeling and reviews
- Design AI-enabled workflows with appropriate safeguards
- Set a high bar for code quality, automated testing, reliability, observability, and CI/CD
- Drive improvements in system performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability
- Review complex designs and code changes, providing constructive technical guidance
- Lead efforts to reduce technical debt and modernize legacy components
- Promote strong operational practices
- Mentor senior and staff-level engineers
- Influence engineering direction across multiple teams
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Act as a trusted advisor to product and engineering leadership on AI capabilities
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Significant experience designing and building enterprise back-end systems
- Deep expertise with C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, RESTful APIs, background services, dependency injection, asynchronous programming
- Strong experience with enterprise application architecture, including microservices, modular monoliths, distributed systems, event-driven patterns, messaging, API gateways
- Experience designing and operating production systems in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Hands-on experience integrating AI, machine learning, or LLM-enabled capabilities into business workflows
- Experience with data-intensive applications, including relational databases, SQL performance tuning, data modeling, caching, indexing
- Strong understanding of secure software development practices, including authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, secure APIs
- Experience working in or supporting regulated, compliance-driven, or risk-sensitive industries
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives across teams
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred
- Experience with AWS Bedrock, OpenAI APIs, Microsoft Agent Framework, SpecKit, vector databases, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt orchestration
- Experience designing human-in-the-loop workflows, approval flows, audit trails, or exception management systems
- Familiarity with responsible AI practices, model evaluation, AI governance, prompt/version control, AI observability, and risk management frameworks
- Experience with enterprise workflow platforms, rules engines, BPM tools, case management systems, document management systems
- Experience with messaging and event streaming technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Event Grid
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with DevOps and infrastructure-as-code practices using tools such as GitHub Actions and Terraform
- Experience with domain-driven design, clean architecture, CQRS, event sourcing, distributed tracing
- Experience with high-scale API platforms
