Vessel IT Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Vessel IT Engineer for one of our global maritime clients. The Vessel IT Engineer is responsible for managing, supporting, maintaining and upgrading the on-board IT infrastructure of vessels. The successful candidate will provide remote IT support, and when required on-board support on vessels. The position offers development in IT knowledge, tele-communication and cyber security skills in a multicultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver remote IT support to vessels and crew, providing onboard assistance when necessary.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize IT infrastructure, including networks, satellite and radio communication systems, servers, and end-user workstations.
  • Contribute to the design, deployment, and ongoing enhancement of vessel IT infrastructure.
  • Monitor IT systems to ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Carry out remote and onboard system upgrades, software patching, and network maintenance.
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and relevant IT stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain IT security controls, system integrity, and backup and recovery solutions.
  • Manage escalated Level 1 helpdesk requests and provide timely technical resolutions.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours and weekend support.
  • Travel onboard vessels as required to conduct IT audits and provide ad hoc technical support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent with 3 - 5 years of relevant IT experience.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft technologies, Antivirus, network switches, UPS, firewalls, storage/backup and replication systems.
  • Experience supporting or implementing cybersecurity solutions is preferred.
  • Knowledge of hardware troubleshooting, data cabling and WiFi infrastructure.
  • Exposure to ship automation systems will be an advantage.
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and perform well under pressure.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive self-motivated, and eager to learn.
  • Comfortable working in remote environments with limited support.
  • Good team player to effectively work with diverse teams.
