Responsibilities

Lead development of backend systems and growth initiatives for the MapMyFitness platform
Collaborate with marketing, product, and design peers to ship great user experiences
Respond proactively to bugs and make continuous improvements for the MapMyFitness community
Assist with monitoring and resolving incidents, ensuring high availability
Build and maintain APIs that power mobile clients
Contributed to major architectural changes on products used by millions of users

Requirements

7+ years experience in backend software development
Proficient with AI agent coding; Claude Code
Proficient with Python and Java
Strong experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures
Comfortable working with RDS/MySQL and Django
Experience with Kafka or similar messaging/event-driven systems
Strong communicator in a fully remote environment
Able to work independently in situations of ambiguity
Experience shipping maintainable and testable code bases

Preferred

Experience with Scala
Passion for fitness, running, cycling, or other endurance activities
Experience working with legacy systems
Familiarity with the MapMyFitness apps or active user community
