Responsibilities

Maintain and optimize a PostgreSQL database hosted in AWS
Develop, maintain, and version-control data definition scripts
Execute the migration of existing data and schema from Oracle to PostgreSQL
Maintain technical documentation for database design and changes
Monitor and tune database performance
Design and implement back-up and disaster recovery processes
Manage database backups, restores, and updates
Perform database object synchronization
Manage database security and access controls
Perform index reconciliation and optimization
Collaborate with engineering and DevOps teams on database security and scalability
Support schema conversion, object validation, and post-migration reconciliation
Support AWS DMS configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting
Conduct migration validation activities
Develop and execute SQL and shell automation scripts for migration
Create automated workflows for identifying missing database objects
Coordinate migration cutover activities
Author migration procedures and documentation
Support automated generation or validation of database table definitions based on Java object models
Review OpenAPI specifications to understand microservice interfaces
Ensure database tables and schema changes are consistent with Java domain objects
Define repeatable workflows for translating OpenAPI-defined service models into schema updates
Integrate Liquibase database changes into CI/CD pipelines
Validate Liquibase changes and troubleshoot schema deployment failures
Ensure database changes support microservice functionality and performance

Requirements

4+ years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, or database administration
Strong SQL and database development skills
Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL
Familiarity with Oracle
Familiarity with AWS Database Migration Service
Familiarity with Liquibase or a similar database change management tool
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with Git
Familiarity with Bash
Familiarity with DevSecOps tools
Familiarity with Agile software development methodology
Proficiency with Git-based version control
Familiarity with AWS infrastructure
Familiarity with cloud-hosted database environments
Familiarity with security groups, networking, and application connectivity
Strong troubleshooting skills
Ability to analyze schema, data, migration, and deployment issues
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to document technical procedures
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Security+ certification (or willingness to obtain one)
Requires a government security clearance
Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred

Experience with PostgreSQL hosted in AWS RDS
Experience using Liquibase to manage database changes through DevSecOps pipelines
Comfortable developing automation scripts
Collaborating with microservice teams
Experience with Oracle-to-PostgreSQL Migration and AWS DMS
Experience with SQL*Plus, Bash, PostgreSQL utilities, Oracle metadata utilities
Experience with Java object models and microservice data contracts
Experience with OpenAPI specifications
Experience with Java domain objects, persistence models, DTOs, and service-layer requirements
Experience with controlled, repeatable, and auditable schema deployments
Experience with backend developers to ensure database changes support microservice functionality
