Job Description – Senior Software Engineer (Backend Engineering)

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and distributed services that power mission-critical business capabilities. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in Java backend development, microservices, and distributed systems, along with working knowledge of event-driven architectures and modern data processing concepts. This role requires ownership of feature delivery, technical problem solving, and collaboration across engineering teams to build reliable, secure, and high-performing software solutions.

Application & Feature Delivery

• Own end-to-end delivery of scoped features through collaborative engineering teams.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support backend services, APIs, and platform components.
• Develop backend features that integrate with messaging systems and data processing pipelines supporting operational, analytical, and AI/ML use cases.
• Deliver solutions aligned with product goals, platform standards, and long-term engineering objectives.

Software Development & Lifecycle Execution

• Develop clean, efficient, and maintainable code using Java and modern software engineering practices.
• Build scalable microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven applications.
• Develop backend services that publish to and consume from messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka.
• Implement simple batch or streaming data processing components using modern frameworks where appropriate.
• Drive the complete software development lifecycle including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, monitoring, debugging, and production support.
• Build automation scripts and implement telemetry to improve operational efficiency.
• Conduct code reviews and proactively resolve defects through root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

AI/ML Integration & Modern Engineering

• Integrate AI/ML services and intelligent components using internal and external APIs.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve engineering productivity.
• Apply object-oriented design principles and engineering best practices to build modular, maintainable, and extensible software.

Solution Design

• Translate high-level designs into detailed technical solutions and implementation plans.
• Design scalable, secure, and maintainable backend services aligned with engineering standards.
• Design backend components that integrate effectively with enterprise data platforms and distributed messaging systems.
• Participate in design reviews and apply appropriate design patterns and engineering principles.
• Continuously learn and contribute to engineering knowledge sharing across teams.

DevOps & Operational Excellence

• Monitor application health using observability, logging, and performance metrics.
• Conduct maintenance activities for backend services, messaging systems, and supporting data processing workflows.
• Support production deployments, incident management, and system reliability.
• Ensure adherence to CI/CD practices and engineering quality standards.

Engineering Excellence

• Deliver high-quality, reliable, and performant software solutions.
• Promote reusable components, automation, and engineering best practices.
• Contribute to platform improvements and continuous modernization initiatives.
• Support backend services, APIs, and lightweight data processing components to improve reliability and developer productivity.

• Own backend services, APIs, and supporting data processing components throughout their lifecycle.

Collaboration

• Partner with Product, Platform, Infrastructure, QA, Data Engineering, and AI/ML teams to deliver business value.

• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
