Responsibilities

Understand user intent using AI and LLM techniques
Refine queries for retrieval and ranking
Improve search relevance with user behavior signals
Incorporate catalog knowledge and generative models into search
Develop hybrid retrieval and ranking systems
Develop scalable feedback and reward modeling approaches
Build LLM-based evaluation frameworks
Improve quality and reliability of generative and agentic systems
Research techniques to deploy LLMs in production
Balance LLM quality, cost, and latency
Work on graph data management and knowledge discovery
Integrate structured knowledge with LLM-based reasoning
Develop temporal models for user behavior prediction

Requirements

Ph.D. student in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or related areas
Strong programming skills in Python
Strong programming skills in Golang
Strong algorithmic skills
Solid foundations in machine learning
Solid foundations in algorithms
Solid foundations in optimization
Curious, self-motivated
Comfortable working on open-ended problems
Hands-on experience with generative or traditional modeling frameworks (PyTorch, Tensorflow, vLLM)
Interest in translating research ideas into scalable production systems
Experience translating research ideas into scalable production systems

Preferred

Ph.D. student at a top tier university in the United States
Prior industry or research internship in machine learning or AI
