Position-Technician (IT) Desktop Support

Location-Hickory, North Carolina, USA

Duration- 12 Months

Responsibilities-

Non-Exempt

Role Purpose

This role performs technical duties and activities within prescribed time frames within the manufacturing environment supporting a range of equipment including PCs, printers, servers, limited network/RF support, etc. This role participates in projects to improve overall process and technical efficiency within the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs technical duties and activities within prescribed time frames.

  • Maintains and ensures confidentiality of information / materials.
  • Takes initiative to identify and propose remedies to problems.
  • Gives periodic status reports in written and verbal formats.
  • Interacts with peers, & one level above, to ensure continuity & efficiency.
  • Interacts with Help Desk and other IT teams.
  • Provides rotational on call support after adjustment period.
  • Focus on safety at all times

Experiences/Education

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Beginning job content knowledge.

Desired

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Successful track record of performance in previous work experiences.
  • 1 - 3 years’ work experience.

Manager Must Haves/Desires

Willing to work On-Call Schedule

Closer to the Hickory site the better, local candidates will get first preference

Nice to have manufacturing environment experience

Nice to have previous Corning experience

Description

  • Responsible for the effective acquisition, installation, maintenance, and use of desktop technology.
  • May be responsible for the purchase and installation of hardware/software.
  • Represents bridge between technology and business needs.
  • Resolves problems with new and existing equipment.
  • May train end users on software.
  • Administers end user requests and projects.
  • Coordinates resources to solve problems.
  • Learning and applying a basic knowledge in one skill area.
  • Limited use and/or application of technical principles, theories and concepts.
  • Develops solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
  • Work is closely supervised.
  • Follows specific, detailed instructions.
  • May be assigned to small projects or to phase(s) of larger projects.
  • Contributes to the completion of routine technical tasks.
  • Failure to achieve results can normally be overcome without serious affect on schedules and programs.
  • Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals in the section or group.
  • May or may not have frequent external customer contacts.
