JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Software Engineer designs, builds, and maintains the software behind IMS's proprietary technology suite, working across applications, service, API, and data layers to transform the firm's 30-year foundation of litigation and case outcome expertise into modern, AI-enabled products. This role serves as a senior technical contributor, partnering closely with product management, data science, design, and engineering leadership to translate business requirements into scalable, production-quality solutions.

The Senior Software Engineer plays a critical role in modernizing and consolidating a mix of legacy and newly acquired technologies into a unified platform while helping establish engineering standards, best practices, and architectural direction. This is an opportunity to help shape the technology foundation of a growing software organization as IMS embarks on a new technology journey beginning in 2026.

This role offers significant influence over architecture, technical strategy, and engineering practices while contributing to the transformation of an established services-driven market leader into a technology-driven organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Software Engineering & Application Development

• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions across front-end, back-end, API, and data layers supporting IMS's proprietary technology platforms
• Lead the technical implementation of complex features and capabilities spanning jury consulting, litigation surveys, expert witness search, trial graphics, and medical-legal consulting products
• Design, build, and maintain scalable APIs and services that expose case, expert, and client data to internal applications and external integrations
• Write clean, secure, maintainable, and well-tested code while actively participating in code reviews and promoting engineering best practices
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing

Platform Modernization & Architecture

• Contribute to architecture, modernization, and platform consolidation efforts across legacy systems and newly acquired technologies
• Design and implement scalable integration solutions, including APIs, data pipelines, event-driven services, and webhooks, supporting IMS's ongoing growth and M&A initiatives
• Partner with engineering leadership to evaluate technical tradeoffs and establish architectural standards that balance scalability, maintainability, security, and delivery timelines
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve system reliability, performance, and developer productivity

AI & Data-Driven Product Development

• Partner with product management and data science teams to develop and deploy AI-powered product capabilities, including predictive analytics, expert matching, and behavioral science applications
• Integrate third-party and internally developed AI/ML models into production workflows while ensuring reliability, explainability, security, and cost efficiency
• Design and implement telemetry, monitoring, and analytics solutions to measure feature performance and product adoption against business objectives
• Contribute technical expertise to the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies and AI-enabled solutions

Quality, Security & Operations

• Develop automated testing strategies including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to support reliable software delivery
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and engineering processes that enable frequent, high-quality releases
• Build solutions with appropriate security, privacy, confidentiality, and compliance considerations for legal industry data and client information
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across multiple systems and technology stacks
• Create and maintain technical documentation, architectural artifacts, and implementation standards to support a growing engineering organization

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Experience designing, developing, and supporting scalable software applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, and cloud technologies
• Strong experience building web applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React preferred) and back-end technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, or C#
• Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs and working with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including application deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management
• Familiarity with software architecture patterns, distributed systems concepts, and scalable application design
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control systems, and modern software testing practices
• Experience integrating AI/ML technologies into software products, including LLM APIs, vector databases, RAG architectures, or predictive modeling solutions strongly preferred
• Experience in B2B SaaS, legal technology, professional services, financial services, healthcare, or other regulated industries preferred
• Experience modernizing legacy systems, integrating acquired technologies, or participating in platform consolidation initiatives is highly desirable
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups

EDUCATION & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience
• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience delivering production-grade applications
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scalable software solutions across multiple tiers of an application architecture
• Proficiency in at least one modern front-end framework (React preferred) and one back-end language/framework
• Strong knowledge of SQL, relational database design, and data modeling concepts; NoSQL experience is a plus
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP), Docker, and CI/CD tooling
• Working knowledge of software architecture, application security, and secure coding practices
• Exposure to AI/ML product development, including LLM APIs, RAG architectures, NLP, predictive modeling, or similar technologies
• Understanding of privacy, security, governance, and compliance considerations applicable to legal or highly regulated industry data is preferred
