About Mentor Collective

At Mentor Collective, we believe human connection is the key to student success. We partner with higher education institutions to deliver transformative mentoring experiences.

We are entering an exceptionally exciting phase of growth: launching a brand-new product, refreshing our visual brand, and actively integrating AI and agentic workflows into how we build and deliver software. We operate as a nimble, highly collaborative team with a supportive engineering culture, an ambitious product vision, and a genuinely rewarding market to serve.

About the role

We are looking for a creative, highly curious Product / UX Designer who is in the growth stage of their career. You will be the primary UX/UI champion for our team, working in lockstep with our Product Manager, Head of Product & Customer Success, and dedicated engineering team.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role where your ideas will directly shape the end-to-end user experience. You’ll thrive here if you love rapid prototyping, asking great questions, experimenting with new technologies (including AI), and bringing fresh, creative ideas to the table.

What You'll Do

  • End-to-End UX/UI Design: Translate product strategy and customer insights into intuitive user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and polished front-end UI designs.
  • Rapid Prototyping & Testing: Create high-fidelity interactive prototypes to validate concepts internally with stakeholders and externally with higher education partners and students.
  • Research Collaboration & Application: Partner on customer research, synthesize feedback, and translate complex user needs into simple, elegant product solutions.
  • Bring the Brand to Life: Help apply and evolve Mentor Collective’s brand identity across our digital product experience.
  • Design System Stewardship: Maintain and expand our UI component library to ensure design consistency and efficient handoffs to engineering.
  • AI & Workflow Innovation: Actively experiment with AI tools and emerging technology to accelerate design workflows, explore new UI patterns, and elevate our product experience.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of professional UX/Product Design experience in a web or SaaS environment (portfolio required showing your end-to-end UX process, not just final screens).
  • Strong UX foundation: Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, user flows, and usability heuristics.
  • Prototyping Mastery: Advanced skills in Figma (or equivalent tools) to build and present interactive, testable prototypes.
  • Product-Minded Thinking: Ability to balance ideal user experiences with technical feasibility, development scope, and business objectives.
  • Exceptional Communication: Outstanding ability to articulate the "why" behind your design decisions, facilitate brainstorming sessions both internally and with customers, and ask insightful questions.
  • Tech & AI Enthusiast: Genuine curiosity and hands-on experience using modern design and AI tools—specifically leveraging tools like Claude Design alongside Figma to rapidly build prototypes, maintain scalable design systems, and generate dev-ready assets for engineering.
  • Proactive Mindset: Self-motivated go-getter who naturally looks beyond assigned feature cards to identify improvements and opportunities within the product and the overall business.
  • Accessibility Awareness: Experience with—or a strong eagerness to learn—web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA) to ensure our digital products are inclusive, usable, and compliant for all higher education students and staff.

Bonus Points

  • Background designing high-engagement consumer-facing web or mobile applications.
  • Experience in Higher Education, EdTech, or multi-stakeholder SaaS platforms.
  • Basic understanding of front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, basic design systems) to collaborate smoothly with developers.

Benefits & Perks

  • 100% remote company
  • 5 Medical plans - all PPO plans
  • 1 Medical plan option is 100% employer-covered (employee-only tier)
  • 5 Dental/Vision plans
  • HSA, FSA, Dependent FSA options
  • Talkspace mental health therapy covered at no cost to the employee
  • Annual travel benefits to seek out-of-state care from specialists for reproductive and gender-affirming care
  • One Medical membership covered at no cost to the employee
  • Flexible PTO with a minimum requirement for employees
  • 401k benefits + Company Match
  • Stipend for WFH office setup
  • Opportunities for professional development & career advancement

Compensation

$85,000-90,000 per year (total compensation inclusive of base salary & variable) based on experience. This is a Full-Time, Exempt position.
