We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Cluster to Cluster (C2C) Services team, which builds the services and tools that move data reliably between MongoDB clusters. Our work spans the Atlas Live Migration service, mongosync, and disaster-recovery capabilities, helping customers migrate, replicate, and protect critical workloads across cloud and on-premises environments . We solve challenging problems in distributed systems, data movement, reliability, scalability, and operability. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will build and support new solutions to address our scalability, performance and usability challenges.
This role can be based out of our Dublin office or remotely in Ireland.
Responsibilities
- Build our Atlas Migration Services and tooling, including data movement and disaster recovery features. These are heavily used by customers of MongoDB Atlas (our Database-as-a-Service), as well as by on-prem customers
- Work closely with product, design, and engineers across the organization to collectively build features that our customers love
- Uphold engineering best practices and help drive a culture of quality, customer focus, and continuous learning
- Mentor and contribute to the growth of team members
- Solve difficult technical problems in a distributed environment
Candidate Profile
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, primarily focused on backend systems
- Skilled at writing distributed backend systems in a compiled language (Java, C#, Go, C++ etc)
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and experience designing APIs and services in a microservice environment
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience in one or more of: data streaming or replication, database systems, scalability, performance, reliability, or fault tolerance.
- Curious, collaborative, empathetic, and intellectually honest
- Motivated to solve tough problems and continually expand their knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Success Measures
- In three months you understand the team’s architecture, MongoDB fundamentals relevant to C2C, and the core data-movement workflows. You have delivered a scoped change and contributed to production-quality fixes
- In six months, you are reviewing code and new feature designs. You're involved in the design and implementation of a major project, and a few smaller features
- In twelve months, you’re leading the design and development of at least one major new feature. You have strong familiarity with the products the team owns and are able to work across the codebase. You’re able to provide strong product support to both internal and external customers
