Responsibilities
- Build and own the integration layer that keeps HubSpot financially accurate, compliant, and fast
- Partner with HubSpot's Finance organization to understand financial position, report revenue, serve customers, and inform business decisions
- Own the integration layer across financial systems: Aptitude, NetSuite, SOVOS, Avalara
- Drive integration ownership, compliance, and incremental improvements to reporting pipelines, revenue recognition systems, and general ledgers
- Design sound integrations and deliver solutions that are technically correct and financially rigorous
- Break problems down into tractable pieces and implement each piece with minimal hand-holding
- Drive quality improvements, resolve incidents, and follow through on commitments
- Build with financial rigor, understanding that a bug in revenue recognition is a restatement
- Understand complex financial domains: revenue recognition principles (ASC 606 / IFRS 15), SOX compliance requirements
- Partner across engineering, product, compliance, finance, internal audit, external auditors, and security
- Explain a system design to an auditor and a data flow to a controller
- Provide regular and proactive updates to stakeholders
- Mentor or teach other engineers on the team or in related areas
- Embrace and leverage AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT)
- Participate in the interview process
- Build and maintain systems where an outage or data error has direct financial and legal consequences
- Ensure financial reports are accurate and integrations run correctly
- Handle PagerDuty rotation, operations, and incident response
- Produce well-tested software that handles failures gracefully
- Know and use all rollout methods (gates, config, canary deploys, library canaries, pre-release tags)
- Debug systems and applications effectively using Metrics, Logfetch, Error Reporting, and Tracing
- Perform code reviews focusing on unhandled edge cases, failure scenarios, performance issues, or regressions
- Raise issues if the team moves too fast, cuts corners, or reliability drops
- Own reliability and security work
- Complete work items independently and proactively
- Triages work to complete it in SLA
- Own the reliability of financial reporting and integrations
- Be available and responsive during month-end and quarter-end close
- Document integration failures that affect financial data as high severity incidents
- Ensure changes to SOX-controlled systems go through proper change management
- Serve as a qualified second reviewer on any controlled integration check
- Master existing technical skills and expand ownership across more of HubSpot's financial systems stack
- Go deeper on compliance engineering: SOX controls, audit trail design, change management
- Take on broader system design work and own larger pieces of HubSpot's financial data layer
- Develop a reputation as a trusted technical resource for Finance leadership and Internal Audit
- Mentor newer members of the Financial Systems team
- Serve as the technical leader for larger financial systems projects

- Can explain a system design to an auditor and a data flow to a controller
