Description

The Director, Engineering is responsible for leading the technical evolution and operational stability of the systems that support our claims management workforce. This role requires a leader who combines architectural depth and hands-on problem-solving with strong leadership, vendor management, and cross-functional communication.

This position oversees a blended team of onshore staff and multiple offshore vendors, including developers, QA engineers, system administrators, and technical business analysts.

Essential Job Functions

• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across our Microsoft-based stack (.NET, SQL Server, Azure).
• Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team composed of onshore resources and multiple offshore vendor teams.
• Manage relationships with offshore partners to ensure consistent performance, alignment to standards, and delivery quality across time zones and locations.
• Drive engineering excellence through structured delivery practices, proactive incident prevention, and robust documentation.
• Oversee team structure, hiring decisions, performance management, and skills development across internal staff and vendor-contributed teams.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability of production systems through thoughtful design and operational discipline.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders—including product, operations, and compliance—to define requirements, align priorities, and design practical, maintainable solutions—demonstrating clear, proactive communication to ensure shared understanding and strong execution.
• Deliver incremental, high-value improvements while balancing technical debt, performance, and long-term sustainability.
• Lead efforts to modernize legacy systems and integrate cloud-native solutions where applicable.
• Own and report on application SLAs, KPIs, and support metrics, driving accountability and continuous improvement.
• Oversee relevant vendor contracts, licensing, and service level agreements.

Required Experience/Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering or technical operations, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated success managing hybrid teams, including coordination across multiple offshore vendors.
• Deep technical expertise with Microsoft technologies—.NET (C#), SQL Server, Azure services, and Microsoft 365.
• Strong architectural and operational background in enterprise applications.
• Proven ability to mentor and grow teams while maintaining high performance and accountability.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across departments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

• Experience in property & casualty insurance, claims administration, or related operations.
• Familiarity with Power Platform, Azure DevOps, or low-code integration tools.
• Understanding of ITIL-based service delivery, change management, and operational controls.
• Experience managing vendor SLAs, contracts, and performance across multiple third-party partners.
• Awareness of cybersecurity and compliance requirements in regulated industries.
