Forward Deployed Engineer

--- **About the Role** Restate builds a lightweight runtime that turns AI agents, workflows, and backend services into durable processes — so engineering teams can focus on business logic rather than failure mechanics. The runtime is already in production at Fortune 500 enterprises, Tier 1 banks running critical financial workflows, and frontier AI startups building production-grade agents. As the founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll define how this function works — the PoC playbook, the path-to-production patterns, the reusable enablement assets, and the feedback loop into product. You'll own the technical path from PoV/PoC enablement through production readiness and deployment. You'll work hands-on with customer engineers and OSS evaluators to make PoCs successful — integrations, reference implementations, architecture guidance, and "known-good" patterns. You'll drive the work to go from "PoC works" to "production-ready": Kubernetes, cloud setup, observability, networking and security integration, operational patterns, and rollout planning. You'll support discovery workshops and POV planning early, take part in escalation and on-call rotations for customer-critical issues, and feed friction and papercuts back into the engineering team — contributing directly to docs, examples, SDKs, and (where it makes sense) the core product.

if you care about building a publicly visible developer brand, this seat naturally creates that platform. --- **What They're Looking For** - You're fully proficient in Go or Rust, plus at least one of TypeScript, Java, or Python - You have strong Kubernetes skills, strong observability instincts, and hands-on experience with at least one cloud stack (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - You've designed and operated real distributed backend systems in production, and you understand failure modes and reliability patterns from doing the work, not reading about it - You bring a customer-success mindset — you go beyond the immediate issue to understand context, adjacent use cases, and help activate internal champions - You're comfortable being the technical face of the product in front of sophisticated customer engineers — including staff and principal engineers at Tier 1 banks and frontier AI teams - (Bonus) Experience with auxiliary infrastructure components — API gateways, proxies, ingress and service-mesh patterns, auth layers — and strong enablement writing that turns repeated problems into crisp guides and reusable assets --- **About Restate** Restate is a lightweight runtime for durable AI agents, workflows, and backend services.
