Software Engineer — AI-Enabled Product Modernization

Level: P3 (Software Engineer)

Jeppesen ForeFlight is seeking a Software Engineer to help deliver critical aviation-product modernization initiatives. You will join a small, cross-functional product team and contribute across the delivery lifecycle—from understanding the problem and designing solutions through implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and operational stabilization—typically owning well-scoped features and components with guidance from senior engineers on ambiguous or cross-cutting work.

The ideal candidate pairs solid software-engineering fundamentals with growing technical judgment and hands-on production experience, and is comfortable working within complex existing systems.

You should be effective with AI-assisted development

able to frame bounded tasks clearly for coding agents, supply the context and constraints they need, evaluate what they produce with a critical eye, and remain personally accountable for the quality and reliability of your work.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and help operate software supporting aviation products and modernization initiatives, primarily at the feature and component level.
  • Turn defined product requirements into clear technical designs, interfaces, acceptance criteria, and well-scoped units of work, escalating ambiguity and tradeoffs early.
  • Use coding agents and other AI-assisted development tools throughout the lifecycle—codebase exploration, implementation, refactoring, debugging, testing, and review.
  • Break work into bounded tasks with enough context and constraints that both you and coding agents can execute them reliably, and integrate the results coherently.
  • Critically evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness, security, maintainability, performance, and fit with existing systems rather than accepting output as authoritative.
  • Establish appropriate verification for your changes using automated testing, static analysis, security tooling, observability, and peer review.
  • Integrate new capabilities with existing systems, workflows, and aviation data formats while being mindful of compatibility and migration risk.
  • Identify technical risks and dependencies in your area and communicate them clearly to your team.
  • Participate actively in code review, production support, and the continuous improvement of the team's engineering and AI-assisted development practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • Solid software-engineering skills in Python or another general-purpose programming language.
  • Experience contributing to the development and operation of production software.
  • Hands-on experience using coding agents or comparable AI-assisted development tools to make meaningful changes in real software systems.
  • Ability to break defined work into clear, bounded tasks with sufficient context, constraints, and acceptance criteria for both people and AI agents.
  • Ability to review and improve AI-generated designs and implementations rather than treating generated output as authoritative.
  • Working knowledge of testing, CI/CD, observability, security, source control, maintainability, and production operations.
  • Some experience working in cloud environments and integrating with existing systems.
  • Sound problem-solving ability and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Typically 3+ years of professional software-engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to agentic software-development workflows, repository instructions, automated verification, or developer tooling.
  • Experience using coding agents for refactors, migrations, or other multi-file changes.
  • Experience working in or integrating with complex legacy production systems.
  • Experience delivering across more than one layer of a software system (e.g., backend and frontend, or service and data layer).
  • Exposure to regulated, safety-critical, or high-reliability environments.
  • Aviation-domain interest or experience, particularly as a pilot, dispatcher, or developer of aviation software.

This position is on a hybrid schedule. This means you will be required to perform some work onsite at the company’s Gdansk, Poland office. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
