Senior Developer
We are seeking an experienced Senior Developer to support the design, development, enhancement, maintenance, and technical evolution of the Securities Finance Processor platform. The role requires strong hands-on development experience in UniData, UniBasic, and System Builder, combined with the ability to work across complex financial services applications, Agile delivery teams, and cross-functional stakeholder groups.
The successful candidate will act as a senior technical contributor and trusted product expert, helping to deliver high-quality software changes, resolve complex technical issues, support release delivery, promote engineering best practices, and preserve critical product knowledge within the team.
About the Platform
Securities Finance Processor is an integrated solution for international securities financing. It supports the full trade lifecycle of principal and agency securities lending and repo transactions and is designed to help reduce operational risk.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development and Maintenance
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain UniData-based applications and systems for the Securities Finance Processor platform.
- Develop and implement software solutions that meet business, client, and technical requirements.
- Work on core product versions, technical specifications, and client-driven enhancements.
- Ensure applications are performant, maintainable, secure, responsive, and aligned with business requirements.
Technical Leadership
- Provide senior technical input on solution design, development approaches, implementation decisions, and defect resolution.
- Contribute development expertise to technical discussions with Development Managers, Senior Developers, Product Management teams, and business stakeholders.
- Provide impact analysis for enhancements, client requests, regulatory changes, and production issues.
Agile Delivery and Collaboration
- Collaborate with cross-functional Agile sprint teams to gather, analyze, and refine requirements.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, technical reviews, estimation, and retrospectives.
- Break down complex development initiatives into manageable tasks and support predictable delivery outcomes.
- Promote a collaborative, delivery-focused, and positive team culture.
Quality, Testing, and Engineering Standards
- Develop code, perform peer testing, and write unit tests.
- Participate in peer code reviews and contribute to development best practices.
- Refactor code where appropriate to improve performance, maintainability, and quality while remaining risk-aware.
- Apply and support Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices where appropriate.
- Drive improvements in development efficiency, automation, tooling, and software quality.
Knowledge Sharing and Mentoring
- Mentor less experienced developers through coaching, technical guidance, and peer support.
- Help preserve and transfer critical product and business knowledge across the engineering team.
Required Skills and Experience
Core Technical Skills
- Strong commercial experience developing and maintaining UniData-based applications.
- Strong UniBasic and System Builder development experience.
- Experience developing and maintaining complex financial systems or enterprise business applications.
- Knowledge of database design and data modeling.
- Familiarity with version control systems and software development lifecycle processes.
- Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and performing root cause analysis.
Delivery and Engineering Practices
- Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.
- Experience using Jira or similar work management tools.
- Ability to work across multiple workstreams and supported product versions.
- Understanding of release planning, sprint execution, source control, and delivery governance.
- Familiarity with automated testing, unit testing, peer review, refactoring, and Test-Driven Development concepts.
Business and Domain Knowledge
- Experience with Securities Finance or the Financial Services industry is highly desirable.
- Ability to understand complex business processes and client requirements.
- Experience supporting business-critical production systems.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of Java, Spring Framework, REST APIs, and SQL.
- Knowledge of integration frameworks and patterns, including Apache Camel.
- Experience with Linux and/or Windows environments.
- Experience supporting both legacy and modern technology stacks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in UniData and System Builder development.
