Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
As a Senior Digital Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving the University’s core infrastructure platforms. Working across server, virtualisation, storage, backup, cloud and identity platforms, you will provide senior technical expertise supporting both on-premises and hybrid cloud services. You will help ensure infrastructure remains secure, stable, resilient and aligned with operational and strategic requirements.
You will also contribute to technical leadership, architecture decisions, automation initiatives, service improvements and project delivery, while supporting the ongoing development of infrastructure engineering capability across ITS. The role supports enterprise-wide infrastructure services across teaching, research and corporate functions and includes participation in an on-call roster, approximately eight times per year.
Salary will be based on the skills, knowledge, and experience you bring to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) based at our Hillcrest Campus. Ko wai koe? – Who are you?
You will be an experienced infrastructure engineer with demonstrated senior-level experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments. A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience, is required.
You will bring experience administering Linux Server and Windows Server platforms, with strong expertise in virtualisation, preferably Nutanix. Experience with enterprise server hardware, preferably HPE, as well as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID, will be important. You will also have experience with backup, recovery and resilience platforms, security, patching and hardening, complex technical troubleshooting, automation and infrastructure lifecycle management. Strong communication and documentation skills, the ability to build productive relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and experience mentoring colleagues and providing technical leadership are essential.
Experience with Nutanix AHV, AOS and Prism Central, HPE management tools, Cohesity, Qumulo, infrastructure as code or modern engineering practices would be advantageous.
