Provides leadership based on the vision, mission, philosophy, and core values of Mayo Clinic. Plans, directs, and coordinates the operational and personnel activities of the Inpatient CDI staff. Acts as a change agent for improved documentation and enhanced documentation practices. Advocates for and allocates appropriate resources to ensure quality services are provided. Responsible for the overall management, coordination, and performance of staff. Responsible for ongoing staff growth and development. Participates in the orientation and training of new employees. May perform ICDI DRG Secondary Reviews as well as support audit related activities. May be asked to perform secondary mortality review. Performs special projects / Quality Improvement Initiatives. Assists to ensure clinical documentation is present and accurate. Utilizes internal and external benchmarking data to identify clinical documentation opportunities. Demonstrates strong analytical thinking and problem solving. Assures compliance with external and internal measures for these programs. May require occasional travel.

This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of the Rochester, MN campus.

Associate’s and 8 years of experience as an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) OR Bachelor’s and 6 years experience as an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS).

Certifications (All three areas below required)

  • Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) OR Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) AHIMA certification OR Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) AAPC certification
  • Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) AAPC certification

Preferred Qualification

Previous supervisor/manager experience. Stated certifications
