Our client is a South African pharmaceutical benefits management (PBM) organization and specialise in electronic claims processing and the management of medicine benefits. They are looking for a Head of Business Intelligence to join their team.

JOB DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE

The Head

Business Intelligence establishes and leads the Company's BI function, with responsibility for data architecture, reporting, analytics and stakeholder delivery. The role also manages the integration of pharmacies, doctors, hospitals and other providers into the company's infrastructure through medical switches and direct Web API connections.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and deliver the BI strategy and roadmap in support of the company's business objectives.
  • Establish and lead the BI department, including its operating model, team structure, standards and delivery priorities.
  • Own the data warehouse, data lake and reporting architecture, including integration of multiple company data sources.
  • Design, automate and deliver operational, client, regulatory and executive reporting within agreed requirements.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders, translating business and client requirements into BI solutions, reports and dashboards.
  • Establish data governance, data quality, data security and single-source-of-truth standards.
  • Expand Anomaly Detection analytics and develop commercial BI products, analytics and reporting services that create new revenue opportunities for the company.
  • Own the provider integration portfolio covering pharmacies, doctors, hospitals and other provider types that connect through medical switches or directly to the company's Web API.
  • Manage delivery across providers, internal IT specialists, practice management software vendors and switching companies.
  • Ensure that integration standards, access requirements, service levels, monitoring, change control and support arrangements are defined and consistently applied.
  • Monitor integration performance, incidents and unresolved dependencies. Drive corrective action and report material risks or service issues to the relevant stakeholders.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric
  • A degree in Data Science, or a similar / related qualification in a quantitative discipline (for example Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics or a comparable field)
  • Training or practical experience in project management, service management or systems integration will be an advantage

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Essential

  • A minimum of 8 years' relevant experience in data, business intelligence or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a data or BI team.
  • Demonstrated delivery of a data warehouse or data lake set-up and architecture (design through implementation).
  • Proven Business Intelligence set-up and delivery in a production environment, including report design, report writing and automation
  • Experience managing user groups and stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience coordinating system integrations or technology enabled onboarding across internal teams and external organisations.
  • Experience managing vendors, delivery plans, testing, implementation readiness, service issues and operational handovers.

Preferred

  • Experience with IBM i (iSeries / AS400) databases and reporting.
  • Experience in a Pharmaceutical Benefit Management, healthcare, medical scheme or claims-data environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Qlik (Qlik Sense / QlikView).
  • Experience with data governance, POPIA / data-privacy compliance and FWA analytics.
  • SQL and data-modelling experience across multiple source systems.
  • Experience with healthcare provider integrations, practice management systems, medical claims switching or real time claims processing.
  • Exposure to Web API integration, API gateways, transaction monitoring and integration support models.

  • Ability to build working relationships and liaise with clients, partners and regulators.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including data storytelling to non-technical audiences.

  • Strong project coordination and the ability to manage work across business, operational and technical teams.
  • Commercial awareness and the confidence to manage external providers, software vendors and switching companies.
  • Ability to define ownership, control scope, manage dependencies and drive issues through to resolution.
  • Enough technical understanding to challenge plans, assess risks and coordinate specialists without being the technical implementer.
