Controls Engineer is responsible for the complete automation package design including schematics, PLC, motion and programming The position is responsible for generating and managing electrical drawings and sketches required to effectively fabricate, install and/or commission customer defined systems. PLC selection and programming, maintaining / modifying drawings in support of our standard offerings, develop controls narratives and assist with developing operating manuals.
- Develop programming as needed for the projects: programming PLCs, HMIs, and Servo drives.
- Capable of setting functionality and communication with customer controls systems such as Ethercat, Profinet and Ethernet IP.
- Sizing Motors, Drives, and overloads.
- Familiar with Safety Controls and circuits. Calculate loads, fault current, and voltage drop.
- Perform final acceptance testing / checkouts, point-to-point checkout of electrical and control systems.
- Selection and sometimes the assembly of cable, cable trays, and conduit.
- Interface with customer to resolve discrepancies in specifications and drawings.
- Troubleshooting of field problems (fielding service questions from existing customer base, sales reps, and field service techs related to operation and troubleshooting of control systems).
- Develop and monitor schedule and cost on jobs that he/she is responsible.
- Review customer specifications and develop Automation package BOM and estimates for Sales and Aftermarket Parts.
- Work with Sales, Engineers and potential customers to determine optimal solutions for their applications.
- Estimate design and execution time and provide written narrative for sales proposals.
- Travel to customer/vendor locations as needed.
- Develop / maintain / modify drawings in support of our standard offerings and customer application.
- Implement Engineering Standards and tools.
- Autocad Electrical or EPLAN P8
- A BSEE/BSET or Associates Degree with 5 years’ work experience (ideal candidate will have “hands on” electrical experience).
- Experienced PLC programmer familiar with Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff products.
- Capable of setting functionality and communication with customer controls systems such as
- Understanding of controls (motion, PLC, Servo) and experience in troubleshooting systems.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to support design team, and sales.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD electrical, or EPLAN P8, Microsoft Office (Word, PPT, Excel, and Project).
- Extremely organized and detailed oriented.
- Knowledge of basic electricity and electrical circuits required.
- Ability to direct/supervise electrical subcontractors is required.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and perform basic engineering calculations
- Successful experience of three to five years in the development and implementation of automation, electrical design, control system integration, schematics, VFDs, servo control, 3-phase systems, motor control, power distribution and an understanding of industrial controls networks.
- Strong teamwork, good written/verbal communications, and client relationship skills.
- Self-Starter, ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to read, program and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic or other PLC based machine codes to resolve complex problems and/or optimize machine performance.
- Digital drive (AC and DC) experience required.
- Servo Motor and Drive Sizing
- Knowledgeable of NFPA 70 (Sect. 501), National Electrical Code (NEC), UL508, and standard industry design practices
- C++, Java, Visual Basic, Node Red, Python
- Assembling, evaluating, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, motors, and drives.
- Electrical panel design.

- I4.0 experience/IOT gateway
